Grimm: 5x05 “The Rat King”
“Rats! They fought the dogs, and killed the cats”
Rosalee: “I think it means the
whole is worse than the sum of its parts.”
According to TV Line’s report Grimm dipped to series low with this one….
but I rather liked the episode. Actually I liked it quite a lot. So for me the
whole was better than some of its parts. And, yes even the giant rat didn’t
change that.
Reign: 3x06 “Fight or Flight”
Mary: “I may still be a queen, but
I am no longer the queen of France.”
It looks like Reign, it talks like Reign but it doesn’t feel like Reign.
not anymore. I knew the absence of Francis, or rather an amazing talent that is Toby Regbo,
will be noticeable, but not only was it noticeable, it was screaming. As if I
suddenly was watching some other show entirely.
Grimm: 5x02 “Clear and Wesen Danger”
“Cherish those who seek the truth but beware of those who find it”
Adalind: “If something happens to
you... I have Kelly, but I have no job, I have nowhere to live, no place to
raise him. I mean, what if he's like me? What if he's like you? What if he's
some weird combination of both of us... Like some kind of HexenGrimm or
Grimmabiest.”
Remember back when the series just started Captain Renard and Adalind
were working together to kill Nick’s aunt, while Nick was living his happily never
after, totally ignorant of his destiny? Now Sean is Nick's friend and
Adalind is the mother of his child and they are living together, eating
sandwiches and bragging about their cooking. Yeah, we came a long way!
Reign: 3x02 “Betrothed”
The finance term out of Catherine's book: “ask for a full reckoning of the
realm's accounts” really means “activate a plot to assassinate the entire
line of Bourbons”
Well, to be perfectly honest I had made no notes while watching this one.
There is always a first time for everything. While that is comforting, it makes
it rather difficult to review the episode … Are you still with me? Read on.
Reign: 3x01 “Three Queens, Two Tigers”
William: “Every monarchy
needs a clear heir to the throne, so power can be passed down
without bloodshed or the
fear of it.”
Welcome back to the third season of “Reign”. The opening episode was full of boats, cages, wild animals, including of a human variety. With all the sex, the actions, the plotting and travel at a speed worthy of J. Verne’s Nautilus, the tiger totally stole the entire episode. Well, maybe not the entire episode, but definitely some parts of it.

Grimm: 4x22 “Cry Havoc”
“Oh, from this time forth, my thoughts be bloody or be nothing worth.”
Nick: “No. We're doing this my way.”
Hmm… I did not see this coming. It
made perfect sense story wise, but I didn’t even entertain the idea. Well,
every now and then the shows you watch do surprise you in a good way,
especially when you avoid spoilers at all cost.
Grimm: 4x19 “Iron Hans”
“He had killed man, the noblest game of all, and he had killed in the face
of the law of club and fang.”
Sometimes I loose faith in Grimm, like when the episodes focus on
something very remote from the main plot and I sometimes wonder why is it that
I still watch this show, let alone review it. Well, it’s the episodes like this
one. I know Grimm is capable of delivering something more complex than poor
standalones and when it does it’s worth the wait.
Grimm: 4x18 “Mishipeshu”
You don’t
say. We had another one with a wesen that wasn’t a wesen, but a spirit with an
appropriate name that sounded a lot like Machu Picchu. Aside from Russell Hornsby so obviously
having too much fun playing possessed Hank, the case went through without making
any particular impact on me.
Reign: 2x20 “Fugitive”
Francis: “France has been
through so much. Most of this country is like dry tinder, just waiting for a
spark. All that is needed is a face, a claim, a bloodline, and someone who is
willing to die for the cause.”
Well, that what happens when
a snowball of bad mistakes finally hits you. I think this episode was the
saddest one yet - so many disappointments and heartache, I lost count.
Reign: 2x17 “Tempting Fate”
Mary: “Before you dare to trust anyone else,
you must first trust yourself. Your own power. That strength I'd thought I'd
lost, I haven't. It's in me still.”
When this episode ended I
immediately went online to check if this was a season finale. I knew it wasn’t,
I knew there’s still some episodes left, but it felt like one. It wasn’t a finale of course;
it was just a cliffhanger episode for us to dwell on until series return on
April 17th.
Reign: 2x15 “Forbidden”
Mary: “I don't know if I can love
anyone again, but I know I can't keep living like this. A queen but not a
queen. A wife but not a wife.”
This was a wonderful episode that opened so many new doors for pretty much every single character. From possible carrier as Madame for Greer to a more daring move to Scotland for Mary, the episode grabbed the attention and didn’t let it go. Will they act on any of it is another question.

Reign: 2x13 “Sins of the Past”
Narcisse: “There are those who merely believe
they have power, and there are those who actually have it.”
Well, this was an episode for everyone. It was hilarious watching
Catherine having to endure an unorthodox middle age treatment of a sickness she
didn’t even have. It was painfully dramatic watching Mary letting Francis go.
It was very romantic, how Bash spoke of his love for Kenna, his words were
the best love confession I’ve heard in a long awhile.
Reign: 2x11 “Getaway”
Mary: “None
of us are responsible for our hearts, only our actions.”
This episode aired weeks ago, and I couldn’t bring myself to write about
it. I tried, really tried and failed every time. It took all the will power and
then some to finally look through my notes and try to understand why was I so disappointed in this one despite some great moments.
Grimm: 4x09 “Wesenrein”
“He had them brought before the court, and a judgment was handed down."
Wu: “I will do whatever I can to
help find Monroe,
but when this is over, I'm gonna need to have a more, you know, in-depth talk
about...”
Considering what happened to Juliette and Monroe in the previous episode I went into this one with high
expectations. I shouldn’t have. The episode was very slow and anticlimactic.
Grimm: 4x08 “Chupacabra”
“Cuide
su rebaño, nunca deje su lado. Cuide su sangre, el Chupacabra tiene hambre”
Wu: “Cause of death in each one of
these cases is what I would call Portland-esque, and by that, I mean it's
weird.”
Even if you don’t speak Spanish, the word ‘chupacabra’ in the title is
never a good sign. What did we learn from this one? If you are Wesen you should definitely cross
off Dominican Republic
from your vacation destinations list.
