Grimm: 4x20 “You Don't Know Jack”

“Catch me when you can...”

Monroe: “This is not Juliette. This is...”
Hank: “This is vengeance.”

I love watching Grimm close to season finale, because that's when it is at its strongest.

Well, like predicted last week, Juliette wasn’t too keen on the idea of saving her; they should have known by now she wouldn’t take the so called cure voluntarily. I knew that potion was a goner before they even finished cooking it. What I didn’t expect is them first trying it on Adalind. I guess that makes sense, only when a pissed off, jealous Hexenbiest is hunting you it is maybe not the time to suppress your powers, especially if you’re pregnant. During that whole exorcism scene I was wondering how much would that impact the baby.

Are they attempting to make Adalind more likable by suppressing her powers? I think they do, especially in the light of her having a child with Nick. Nick who was uncharacteristically protective of her and in a weird and strange to watch kind of way was really taking care of her. I guess Adalind was right betting on his parental feelings. Adalind and Rosalee had some bonding time while cooking the potion and breaking bones. To be completely fair, Adalind is not wrong in her accusations. She did trust them all and they all betrayed her. Seeing how smoothly she waltzed into the group dynamic, I’m guessing she’s there to stay.

With everything going on I thought they wouldn’t, but they managed to fit a case of the week in this one. Jack the Ripper is in Portland killing wesen prostitutes and mutilating their bodies. As interesting as the killer got while they were discovering more information about him, it felt random. Until it didn’t. Jack the Ripper is not a Wesen, he is ‘something’ that possesses people every 100 years or so. And my guess is, this time it possessed Sean. Our Captain waking up in weird places and always in water, does suggest some sort of possess-reborn kind of thing. I wasn’t sure in my suspicion until Henrietta was killed. Before Jack only attacked prostitutes wesen, and now all of a sudden it’s Henrietta, a wesen, but not a prostitute. She was killed right after Sean left – how else would Jack knew where she lived, her house is under some sort of spell. Plus she is a powerful Hexenbiest, but she lowered her guard when she saw who came in. That and the fact that we were purposefully never shown Jack’s face points toward Sean. But then again maybe I’m totally off.

An almost military operation to take down Kelly Burkhardt in on its way. Juliette has given to the enemy almost every advantage she possibly could. I only hope Mama-Grimm is not as reckless as they hope she would be.

Some observations

Loved how they said their goodbyes to the trailer, everyone remembering their first time there. I was sad to see it destroyed.

Okay, I was expecting some weapons would stay intact, but judging how the strong the fire was, how could anything that is paper-based possibly survive?

Choosing Bud’s house as a safe house for Adalind to stay wasn’t the smartest idea, since Juliette knows about him, but I didn't mind because it is always a pleasure to see Bud. I had a smile on my face throughout his scenes especially the one where he realized that Nick is the father of Adalind’s baby.

Spice shop has a huge, like two-storey huge, basement. Now that the trailer is gone, I assume this would be the new base of operations; it makes sense to have all in one place.

The scene at the cemetery was ridiculous and moving at the same time. Adalind’s speech (see the quotes section) was as contradicting as the character is.

Kenneth and Juliette make for an interesting couple. Hmmm…. I wonder if they go anywhere with it.

Memorable Quotes:

Bud: “Is, uh, her husband or, you know, significant other in trouble, too? Cause I have enough room. The fridge is stocked. D-d-does he like pie?”
Adalind to Nick: “Do you like pie?”
Bud: “Oh, Nick? Oh, he loves pies. We're always bringing pies over to him and Ju... H-hold on a second. I think you misunderstood me…”
LOL

Wu: “Wesen prostitutes? My mind's going a lot of places with this.”

Hank: “Maybe the killer isn't Wesen.”
Wu: “Well, that'd be a nice change of pace.”
Seriously, when is the last time (if ever) they had a human-killer. They sure have them in Portland.

Adalind: “Hi, Mom. It's me. I know we never had a chance to say good-bye after you kicked me out. So good-bye. And there are probably a few things you should know. I had a baby with Sean.
Can't imagine what you'd think of that. I named her Diana. But that didn't work out so well
because she was stolen by the Grimm and his friends, including Sean, and the Grimm's mother who, by the way, killed you... which, I guess, you do know. Anyway, uh, now I'm gonna have another baby. You'll never guess who the father of that one is. It's Nick, the Grimm. So the only reason you're not rolling over in your grave is because you're here. You weren't the greatest mother. And I'm sure I wasn't the greatest daughter. But I loved you. And now I need you. You are gonna help me stop Juliette from killing me and my baby. And then I'm gonna get Diana back, and I'm gonna raise both of my children the right way. So thanks, Mom, for being dead
when I needed you the most.”

Rosalee: “You okay?”
Adalind: “It's just not that easy being pregnant, cutting up your mom, and waiting for someone to kill you.”

Rosalee: “Now all we have to do is get Juliette to take it.”
Monroe: “Oh, that'll be a snap, 'cause, you know, the last time she took something we gave her, boy, that worked out like gangbusters.”

Sol’s rating:
Henrietta was the second cast member (after the trailer) to die as we are closing to a season finale. The episode ended on a cliffhanger, but I doubt very much that Monroe will be shot, quite possibly someone will interfere. The title ‘Catch me when you can’ as opposed to ‘if you can’ suggest they will find a way to deal with Juliette. Or maybe it was a reference to Jack.  We’ll see. 4 out of 5.
