Catherine: “I'm only advising you
to choose your next move carefully. The time has come to either dole out mercy
or to crush them all. Whichever you choose, there is no turning back.”
Mary got her revenge. Conde helped. Francis, once again, was left out.
This seems to be the latest trend.
Our poor king can’t seem to catch a break.
He couldn’t protect Mary and didn’t even get a chance to execute revenge. In
the previous review I predicted that his revenge will be brutal, and it was,
but he was mostly lashing out, hanging people, leaving them to die in the cold.
There is definitely no turning back.
I understand that in Mary’s mind everything that had happened to her is
the result of choices made by Francis. Still the decision to lead separate
lives was a bit extreme, considering it’s only been a day. If the purpose was
to drive Francis to a snapping point it is working. Francis’ despair was
bouncing off of the screen. Him rolling down the hill was painful but
fascinating to watch. Hats off to Toby Regbo.
Lord Castleroy was freed thanks to Leith
who now has lost all favors with the king. Not the smartest move on his part,
but certainly a very noble one, especially since he knew it would mean never to
see Greer again. I would’ve been fine with it - her leaving with her husband.
The reason she stayed behind felt forced, I didn’t feel her love for her
husband or concern for that mater. Either she is a terrible actress or the
writers can’t quite figure out yet how to write her. Either way she is useless.
If it wasn’t for Leith, her presence would’ve
been totally unbearable.
Now, let’s talk about Catherine. What the
heck is going on? The ghosts of her daughters seem to be very strong and can touch material objects and people in this world.
Did we know that already? As if this whole borderline supernatural thing wasn’t
enough we had Henry’s ghost turning up in Catherine's bed. She had to have been
dreaming, right? Hmmm….. the
whole scene was so bizarre, as if I watched an episode of CSI and suddenly Salvatore
brothers were the main suspects.
What else? Ah, yes! Did she actually really
poison Claude?
For an episode titled ‘mercy’ there was exactly no one who has shown
some. But we got a lot of truth. I didn’t expect
Francis coming clean to Mary about, well pretty much everything. Good move, but
a little too late. I also didn’t expect Mary to tell her ladies about the
attack. Nobody told anything to Conde, but he figured it out on his own. And
Mary now has the confirmation of Conde’s feelings for her, if she didn’t know before, now she knows for sure. And we now know about Conde’s mission and
the real reason he’s been at court all this time. The affairs of state and
heart will clash again.
