Antoine: “You may end up with an English
crown on your head.”
Conde: “If I have a head left to
put it on.”
This episode felt a bit
chaotic. Lots of sex and moving on and ‘moving on’ sex. Couples keep getting
together and drifting apart. It’s like new episode new beginning. Or the end.
These last episodes weren’t easy for Conde. He is in the
constant state of having to make hard choices. Leave with Mary, hide their
relationships and risk their heads on a daily basis or leave with Elizabeth. At first the
choice was obvious for him, he chose love. But then he went and met with Elizabeth’s envoy anyway.
Was it because of what Antoine told him? (I’m glad this trouble maker is gone).
Or was it because of Mary? Because he saw that her love for Francis is still
there? I believe it’s the latter. I’m not sure if it’s good or bad, it
certainly is smart. A woman’s heart can change; King’s blessing can turn into
execution. This way Louis is securing his future or completely ruining it. What
will Mary say, when she finds out, the man she said she loves and trusts is
considering a ‘life’ with an another queen, and an enemy at that.
Another couple that has finally consummated their love is Leith and Greer. My question about Leith’s
absence was answered. He was deployed, and came to see her right away bringing
some bad news. Lord Castleroy is in prison for life, so I guess that means we
won’t see him for awhile. Like an
honorable man he is, Leith offered his
friendship and support but couldn’t handle the disappointment after finding out
that the woman he loves has become a Madame. The shock however wore off quickly
and he rushed back to her. There is really no reason for them not to be together. Oh,
yes, she is married, but under the circumstances…
Lola has turned down the King, which was a good thing. Their relationship is
the one I admire the most. They are friends first and most of all, they are
also a family, a real one, where they are able to share their thoughts and
concerns and feel free to give an advice. I’m glad they stayed that way,
because Francis is still in love with Mary and it wouldn’t be fair to Lola, and
Lola learned her lesson and would never betray Mary again. And I still want Lola
with Narcisse, I think they make a fascinating couple.
Kenna is turning into a great party planner! Last week King Antoine’s
party, this week a banquet! While her professional life is getting better, her
personal life has gone to hell, quite literally. She was smart enough to send
for Antoine’s wife, yet she still considered the marriage proposal. Antoine was
right, had his wife came terribly sick, Kenna would say yes. Were does that
leave our couple? Could this be repaired? While Bash has been neglecting his
wife, I believe he still loves her. Kenna’s feelings on the other hand are a
mystery. She might love him, but it didn’t take much convincing for Kenna to
leave him for the better life. We’ll see.
Historical bits
Conde was never amongst Elizabeth’s suitors.
Some observations
Oh, Francis, of all the young girls paraded before your eyes, must you
choose Narcisse’s niece! Even though you are totally heartbroken, you can not
be that reckless!
When I saw Mary meeting with her agent I
wondered what happened to Tahmoh Penikett’s character introduced in “Higher
Ground”? Isn’t he supposed to be in Scotland working for Mary?
Hats off to Toby Regbo. His despair, inner
struggle, pain and suffering were heartbreaking to watch!

Memorable Quotes:
Kenna: “Do
you think he brought his mistress?”
Catherine:
“No, he's hoping he brought the king's mistress.”
Kenna: “I
don't understand.”
Catherine:
“I should have warned you. I suppose I expected you'd instinctively grasp every
nuance of the sordid tradition of a king's mistress.”
Lola: “I
suppose in their minds, it's a simple trade. One daughter will be bedded by a
man she'll never marry, but if that man is the king and the family now has his
favor, it's worth it.”
Catherine:
“Oh, yes. It worked for the Boleyn girls. Well, for their father, anyway.”
Narcisse: “Please
allow me to present my niece, Lady Amelie. She's my sister's child, but my
pride swells for her as if she were my own. Brilliant mind, and a lover of all
the... sensual arts. Enjoys
poetry, plays the lute like an angel, and has a gift for embroidery.”
I laughed so hard, I scared my dog.
Greer: “He's
an officer of the King’s Guard, and... I'm married. Now and forever. It's wrong
and scandalous.”
As oppose to being a Madame? Yeah, right!
