Grimm: 5x12 “Into the Schwarzwald”

Monroe: “Okay, there better be something inside that.”

Well, this was not as entertaining as the previous one. Episode was rather flat, like reflecting upon events that happened, and not as much events happening. Let’s reflect then.

It turned out the Priest and his men were after Grimm because he is a Grimm, not because they were guarding the treasures hidden during Fourth Crusade. This whole hunt/escape was dull and took some precious screen time, but was necessary, I suppose, considering what happened later.

Monroe and Nick have uncovered a hidden chest, rather easily I might add. Apparently you might not need all seven keys to make a map, but you do need all seven keys to open the chest. Unless it’s 2016 and all you need are lock picks. Oh, and a Grimm, or rather his blood. That was a nice touch and one final defense mechanism. How cool was that!

The whole time they were working on getting the chest opened, I kept thinking it’ll be empty. I was wrong once again; it had a nice little stick wrapped in the cloth. I don’t know what exactly they were hoping to find in there, but they certainly were disappointed. Until Wu noticed some vague writing on the cloth itself and that little wooden stick healed Monroe’s awful wound. Like completely. They could certainly use that. Would it work in curing Adalind? I bet, not.

Let’s talk about Adalind. Her powers started sipping through when she was scared and under attack. Rosalee’s ex was not the killer, as I’ve speculated a few reviews back, but just another sleazebag who came back to shake his ex girlfriend for some money. The way Adalind unwillingly broke all of his fingers was awful yet deserving. That will teach him not to mess with our ladies.

Anyhow, back to Adalind’s predicament. She doesn’t want to become a Hexenbiest again, which is understandable, now that she is a mother and in love with a Grimm. Rosalee who always tries to find a positive aspect said that maybe being a Hexenbiest now won’t change her. But I bet it would, seeing that pretty much everyone said on numerous occasions of how much she changed. I personally wouldn’t mind if they spice her character up a bit, she’s becoming a bit boring. I only hope she won’t hide this from Nick.

Sean put two and two together only after watching the footage of the shooting. That’s not a very good police work. I was getting some red flags about his campaign lover from the beginning. Speaking of her, boy she was ugly when she woged! Her head literally went two sizes bigger, not a pretty picture.

Sean avenged the death of that poor fella that was never gonna be Mayor, by killing the only person HW had who could lead them back to the Black Claw. Not a problem for Sean, since he just got the audience with Lucien and was offered to run the city. Remember back in season one (episode 13, ‘Three Coins of Fuchbau’) Sean was affected by the Coins of Zakynthos and had a strong influence on others, remember the crowd that was under his influence? That desire to rule, he’s got it in his blood. Quite literally, since he’s half Royal. He might actually agree to the offer.

Some observations

Episode’s opening quote was:  “What’s past is prologue”. William Shakespeare, of course! In The Tempest (Act II, scene I), the character of Antonio utters the phrase “what's past is prologue”, trying to convince the character of Sebastian to murder his sleeping father so that Sebastian could become king.

Monroe seemed to be way more excited about the trip to the underground church and found treasures, than Nick.

The way the killer climbed down the building wall a la spider man was creepy.

I honestly think if HW and police combined their efforts they would yield better results. Right now they seem to be getting in each other way.

It was THE 100th episode and Trubel was not in it!

Memorable Quotes:

Monroe: “History wasn't something you studied. It was something you made, usually with a lot of blood. ”

Nick: “It's dark, and if they're looking for a Grimm, the last place they'd expect to find one is with a Blutbad in the middle of the Black Forest.”

Sol’s rating: just barely a 3.
