Adalind: “This is a fantasy someone
had 800 years ago”
Well, this just might be my
all time favorite Grimm episode. The next one marks 100, and it should be
even better. Hold still my heart.
The episode started right
where the previous one left off, with our group brainstorming over different
types of maps. As usual the answer was simple and obvious and it was just the
matter of getting there. The process of getting there, albeit short (I thought
it would take them longer), was a pure delight to watch. I watched it twice.
As soon as Nick told Adalind
he’s going to the Black Forest and she went immediately
into worrying mode, I knew we were headed to the bedroom. As a fan of this new,
weird yet hot relationship, I was excited about the prospect, but the
actual scene was a let down. No, not because we didn’t see much. It’s
because of what happened right before and right after. Has anyone else
had the same reaction? Only me? I thought Adalind’s 'I love you' was a
tad bit premature. He didn’t say it back, nor did she give him time to do so.
Even though it was said in a good buy-might-never-see-you-again sort of way, it
still felt off. The other thing that was odd was an interesting choice of flashback
Nick had the morning after. The 'how the hell did we get here?' was written all over his face, as if he almost regretted sleeping with Adalind. Or I could be completely off and he was just remembering
the first time ever they kissed, when he bit her to mix
his blood with hers to take away her powers, it was not romantic but it was still hot.
Moving on
Right about the time they
were all saying goodbye I started getting vibes that someone might actually die. I
seriously went through everyone in the cast except Monroe and Nick. My first
thought was Adalind, then Rosalee. Then we were let in
on the assassination plan and I figured it should be Nick, since he is the most
obvious target, but they wouldn't do that. Then I thought it might be Sean second before his photo was shown to the killer. I was
wrong on all accounts. Not that I’m complaining, I wouldn’t want to see any of
them go.
Sean running for Mayor
sub-plot has finally touched down in a big way and connected to the overall
arc. I should have guessed that Black Claw was prepping and grooming him to be the Mayor from the get-go. All these public appearances and what’s her name with
personal touch. Now, one candidate is off due to some dirty scandal and the
other is dead. If Black Claw wants the world run by Wesen, it makes sense for
them to put a Wesen in the leading position. Only why on earth would they pick Sean?
Do they not know he’s friends with a Grimm and half-Royal? Do they know and
hope to turn him? So many questions. I absolutely love it.
Meanwhile in Germany…
Part of me of course expected
to see some old crypt-like building, and I was equally disappointed when Nick
and Monroe arrived at their destination. Still, I was surprised they left that
shiny new church so quickly. The priest was lying through his teeth and I was
sure they picked up on it. I thought they were quite off with the cross vs. church
theory that wasn’t at all convincing. I was wrong again, because thanks to GPS they found
that old church after all, or what’s left of it. And then they activated some
mechanism and went down, literally. To be continued…
Now, the thing I don’t
understand is why the Priest and his men were trying to kill a Grimm? Is it a
self-preservation kind of thing? Or are they protecting the ‘whatever is
buried’? If so, then considering it was Grimms who hid it initially, shouldn’t a Grimm
be more welcomed? Have the times change so much? If whatever was buried is so
important it makes sense not only to forge the keys and make a map, but also
leave a story behind, the one that is only told once in a lifetime and get passed from generation to
generation…. Then again, it would be another Grimm guarding it. I’m lost and I
can’t wait for the next episode.
Some observations
Episode’s
opening quote was: “It is not down on any map; true places never are”. It is a reference to an island described in Herman Melville’s novel
Moby-Dick.
Why make a point of having 7 keys, if they were able to find what they were looking for with
just 5!?
So with all the HW
resources, Meisner and Co. were still few
steps behind the police who only had a hot line and regular computers.
One thing was unclear to me
regarding the assassination plan - why Lucien showed Sean’s photo to the assassin?
Unless I’m completely wrong and Sean was the target and the killer simply missed. How
on earth could he have missed with the sharp eye of a falcon type wesen?
I believe this is the first
time we saw Lucien’s true face – he is that saber-toothed tiger called ‘a mauvais dentes’. Let me use this
occasion to say one more time how much more gorgeous is Alexander’s white panther-like wesen
face.
While we are on the Wesen faces, the Priest looked quite appropriate.
You never know what you’re gonna get when they woge, sometimes they are
completely off, but this one was spot on. I couldn’t find what type of Wesen
he is. If you do know, tell me in the comments.
Everybody in our inner circle knows about the keys, the map and hidden treasure. Nick told
Adalind without hesitation, yet he didn’t say a word to Sean. What’s up with
that?
It took Nick two hours drive to tell Monroe
about his night with Adalind. Their conversation is a pure quotable gold.
Rosalle is staying with Adalind and Kelly while Nick is gone. Again, she isn't that much of a help in a fight. Shouldn't Hank be a more appropriate choice considering the situation in town?
Monroe is the best friend in the world,
but he is the worst company on the trip to the black scary forest, what with all the
stories he told about the “ground being soaked with the blood of poor peasants”.
Memorable Quotes:
Nick: “I
slept with Adalind. I just thought I should tell you.”
Monroe: “Okay. I mean, it's not like you
haven't slept with her before, but this time you like, actually knew it was
her. So that probably made it different. I mean, did it?”
Nick: “The
first time I slept with Adalind I thought it was Juliette, and when I slept
with
Adalind the
other time, it actually was Juliette, and this time I was with the mother of my
child.
So, yeah, I
would say it was very different.”
Boy,
I thought my love life was complicated.
Sol’s rating: this was brilliant – 5, hands
down!
