Catherine: “I see the Vatican pushing around female monarchs, and I don't
appreciate it one bit.”
Bravo, Catherine! Bravo,
Lord Dudley! That pretty much sums up my feelings about this episode.
Ladies, first. Catherine is the Queen with the capital Q. Hell hath no
fury like a woman scorned, especially if she is royalty. The way she handed it
to Vatican’s
representative was fierce and honest as if all women denied the right to speak
and decide for themselves where echoing her. To stand up like that to the Vatican,
especially as a woman, took courage and she’s got it. Like I said - Bravo,
Catherine!
Whether it is her lucky nature or just her nature, but whatever is going
on she manages to come out a victor. Even the situation with prisoners’
exchange. She helped Gideon to stay alive and by doing that she helped Mary
save her lover and yet Catherine got the biggest prize – her general back, the
one who will help her fight against the Red Knights. It was so circular and
perfect, one might suggest she was the one who sold Gideon in the first place.
I wouldn’t put it past her.
Catherine likes playing with fire. She’s an addict of sorts. That scene
with Christophe pretending to sleep by her bed to safeguard her was creepy
beyond imagination. Yet, she didn’t even blink. How could you sleep at all when
such a ruthless killer is only inches away? I guess she is completely sure he
won’t kill her, but how can one be absolutely sure with a monster like? I’d
rather assume she loves the thrill; the rush of being that close to darkness is
exhilarating. I bet, the sex is great, but is it worth it?
So, Charles and I think alike in assuming the Red Knights threatening the
Valois line now are possibly the children of
the original Red Knights. The fact that the one tracked down by Bash wasn’t
participating in this crusade doesn’t mean the others didn’t. We are yet to
learn about who they are. Considering how excellent Bash became at this
detective/police work he’s doing, they will be caught in a matter of days. That
is sarcasm in me talking, of course it will take longer than that, I just
wanted to point out that in the era of horse riding and no means of
communication Bash sure as hell manages to cover a lot of ground and find and
question a lot of people. Like how easy it was to track down a random child
left at a random place near Dijon
many ears ago? Mad skills.
I was surprised by how quickly Dudley’s trip to France ended.
Story wise it was perfect, I just wished we hade few more scenes of him and
Mary, as they played off of each other rather nicely. I was more surprised when
Robert revealed Gideon’s involvement in uncovering the plot against Elizabeth. Robert
despises Gideon yet he did what an honorable man would do. You stole my heart,
Lord Dudley, and honestly this was the moment when his character became
interesting.
Leith and
Claude make me smile. Really. They are like children without a care in the
world. Good god, Leith! Spilling secrets that
aren’t yours and to Claude! Although that might have been the best move since
she’s the one who cracked the big blackmailing conspiracy. So Greer’s sister
and her husband were planning to run off to Switzerland with the baby. It is
hard to blame them, because every single word her sister said was true! Greer wanted
her child to have a name, a title, a good life, yet every decision was hers and
hers alone. She didn’t even try to discuss the names for the baby. Just simple
‘no’. Her sister, what’s her name, was right. Greer was looking for a governess
and a nanny for her child not a family. So, what now? Greer will keep the baby,
I guess. Only I knew it ever since her pirate came back and offered to help, so
what was the point?
Mary’s relationships with Gideon came to an end. Even though they care
for each other and hope to meet, I’m sure we will never get to see Mary in Scotland
meeting her new English ambassador. As sweet as it sounds, I’m afraid this
story is over. I am glad however they didn’t kill Gideon. Mostly because it
would have sent Mary back into her personal hell and she would never be able to
fall in love again, but also because I kind of liked the character of Gideon.
Loyal to his Queen, in love with another Queen. Fortunately he didn’t have to choose
between the two.
Historical bits
Joseph Tudor didn’t exist. If you prove me
wrong, drop a line in the comments.
Some observations
Narcisse looked like a little puppy whose
parent finally found him and brought home again. Take him as a lover,
Catherine. He might be also ruthless, but nothing even close to Christophe’s
level.
That
torture scene was excruciating to watch.
Wardrobe department
There were a lot of great
dresses in this one.
“Best Dress of the week” Award goes to Catherine and Mary.
For the first time in like
ever - none. Even Mary’s not so royal dress was wonderfully surprising, even
Claude’s undercover costume was charming,
Memorable Quotes:
Elizabeth: “To name a successor is to place a
target on oneself”.
Yep! I said it last week.
Mary: “But
I will hope that they do, that one day I will be walking through Scottish
court, turn a corner and meet my new English ambassador.”
Sol’s rating: 3.5 for sure.
