Grimm: 2x21 "The Waking Dead"

“Papa Ghede is a handsome fellow in his hat and coat of black.
Papa Ghede is going to the palace!
He’ll and drink when he gets back!”
Nick: “Anybody care to comment?”

Well, I do. As a penultimate episode of season 2 this one does get the job done in terms of building up for the season finale. It’s the zombie part of it that I have serious problem with.

So far Royal Families in the person of Eric alone have been very much on the background. What do we really know about them? They are looking for the rest of the keys that will reveal the map of where the “treasure” was hidden. That’s about all we know.  And I’ve been waiting for this plot to unravel, to have the two brothers meet. Obviously Eric is planning something really bad with a container full of zombies, I just wish it was something more on a royal level.

Juliette’s situation, on the other hand, has been completely resolved. She now remembers everything, she knows Nick’s a Grimm, she knows of the Wesen of this world, the only problem is that she is exactly where she was at the end of season one. No major changes, no character development. I understand it is important for her to learn the truth about Nick but did we really need to wait the whole season for that?

However it brings me to my favorite part of the episode. That whole scene at the spice shop with Rosalee, Bud and Monroe all transform for Juliette was so much fun to watch. The morphing (of which Bud’s was the funniest), Juliette’s reaction to each of Nick’s friends true identity, the interaction between them all reminded me why I watch and love this show.

Meanwhile baby plot thickens - still don't care, but as now all major parties know about the royal blood, it might get interesting. Adalind has signed her baby and her soul (not that she did have it) – literally – away for the opportunity to be a Hexenbiest again. Boy, that girl doesn’t stop at anything, does she?

Grimmology

Papa Ghede aka Baron, whose spit can induce a deathlike trans is literally building an army of zombies and we learn by the end of the episode that he works for Royal Families. Will see how his plan will play out next week.

Some observations

That shot of the containers made me think that maybe all of them were full of zombies.

Who on earth eats fast food over ancient books? Seriously? And Nick even asked for more ketchup. Come on!

Renard and his friend spoke French and Adalind spoke German while ordering espresso (shouldn't she not be drinking coffee?).

This time Adalind was staying in room 221 (we did see only 22, but I assumed it’s 221, since the door opposite to hers was 220).

Memorable Quotes:

Nick: “So, Mulpus died twice”
Hank: “Yes, according to this”
Nick: “Neat trick!”

Monroe: “Nick, not everyone is able to make the transition from kehrseite to kehrseite-schlich-kennen.”
Bud: “Most people can't even say it.”

Eric: “How did they come up with the name, do you suppose? They have a port. They have land.
Really put a lot of thought into that one.”

This episode might have worked. It did in some parts and didn't in others. The final shot was of closing doors and “To be continued”, well hopefully the second part will be better.
