Grimm: 5x06 “Wesen Nacht”

“Awake, arise or be forever fall’n.”

Bud: “Kind of looks like a claw mark, I think.”

Well, that was a total mayhem. On screen and … well… on screen.

Grimm: 5x05 “The Rat King”

“Rats! They fought the dogs, and killed the cats”

Rosalee: “I think it means the whole is worse than the sum of its parts.”

According to TV Line’s report Grimm dipped to series low with this one…. but I rather liked the episode. Actually I liked it quite a lot. So for me the whole was better than some of its parts. And, yes even the giant rat didn’t change that.

Reign: 3x06 “Fight or Flight”

Mary: “I may still be a queen, but I am no longer the queen of France.”

It looks like Reign, it talks like Reign but it doesn’t feel like Reign. not anymore. I knew the absence of Francis, or rather an amazing talent that is Toby Regbo, will be noticeable, but not only was it noticeable, it was screaming. As if I suddenly was watching some other show entirely.

Grimm: 5x04 “Maiden Quest”

“After three days and nights, whoever tries and does not succeed shall be put to death.”

Hank: “I think we're grasping at feathers.”

Hmmm….

Grimm: 5x03 “Lost Boys”

“I think I had a mother once”

Monroe: “ Well, look, whatever kind of family you have, reality is relative. You know, normal is just the middle of the mess.”

You don't say!

Reign: 3x05 “In a Clearing”

Mary: “We were supposed to dance under the stars”

Well, that was heartbreaking and, if you really think of it, absolutely unnecessary. And here is why…

Reign: 3x04 “The Price”

Elizabeth: “Why must the fate of nations be decided in a shared bed?”

Well, color me disappointed.

Grimm: 5x02 “Clear and Wesen Danger”

“Cherish those who seek the truth but beware of those who find it”

Adalind: “If something happens to you... I have Kelly, but I have no job, I have nowhere to live, no place to raise him. I mean, what if he's like me? What if he's like you? What if he's some weird combination of both of us... Like some kind of HexenGrimm or Grimmabiest.”

Remember back when the series just started Captain Renard and Adalind were working together to kill Nick’s aunt, while Nick was living his happily never after, totally ignorant of his destiny? Now Sean is Nick's friend and Adalind is the mother of his child and they are living together, eating sandwiches and bragging about their cooking. Yeah, we came a long way!

Grimm: 5x01 “The Grimm Identity”

“It is not light that we need, but fire.”

Nick: “Juliette's dead. They took her body. They grabbed Trubel. They took my mom's head. I don't know what the hell's going on.”

Welcome back Grimmsters!
It’s season 5!

Reign: 3x03 “Extreme Measures”

Claude: “God, I wish Mother were here. She manages tragedy with ruthless clarity.”

It felt like a finale of sorts.
Did you feel that too?

Reign: 3x02 “Betrothed”

The finance term out of Catherine's book: “ask for a full reckoning of the realm's accounts” really means “activate a plot to assassinate the entire line of  Bourbons

Well, to be perfectly honest I had made no notes while watching this one. There is always a first time for everything. While that is comforting, it makes it rather difficult to review the episode … Are you still with me? Read on.

Reign: 3x01 “Three Queens, Two Tigers”

William: “Every monarchy needs a clear heir to the throne, so power can be passed down
without bloodshed or the fear of it.”

Welcome back to the third season of “Reign”. The opening episode was full of boats, cages, wild animals, including of a human variety. With all the sex, the actions, the plotting and travel at a speed worthy of J. Verne’s Nautilus, the tiger totally stole the entire episode. Well, maybe not the entire episode, but definitely some parts of it.

Reign: 2x22 “Burn”

Narcisse: “… as it turns out, there is one thing worse than being hated by Catherine de Medici, that is being loved by her.”

You don’t say!

Grimm: 4x22 “Cry Havoc”

“Oh, from this time forth, my thoughts be bloody or be nothing worth.”

Hank: “So you want to call it in?”
Nick: “No. We're doing this my way.”

Hmm…  I did not see this coming. It made perfect sense story wise, but I didn’t even entertain the idea. Well, every now and then the shows you watch do surprise you in a good way, especially when you avoid spoilers at all cost.

Grimm: 4x21 “Headache”

“Stronger than lover’s love is lover’s hate. Incurable, in each, the wounds they make.”

Sean: “Well, this should be a jolly good romp.”

Well, two down…  how many to go? It makes me wonder what to expect from season finale? I am honestly a little bit worried.

Grimm: 4x20 “You Don't Know Jack”

“Catch me when you can...”

Monroe: “This is not Juliette. This is...”
Hank: “This is vengeance.”

I love watching Grimm close to season finale, because that's when it is at its strongest.

Grimm: 4x19 “Iron Hans”

“He had killed man, the noblest game of all, and he had killed in the face of the law of club and fang.”

Sean: “I honestly don't think this can get any more complicated.”

Sometimes I loose faith in Grimm, like when the episodes focus on something very remote from the main plot and I sometimes wonder why is it that I still watch this show, let alone review it. Well, it’s the episodes like this one. I know Grimm is capable of delivering something more complex than poor standalones and when it does it’s worth the wait.

Grimm: 4x18 “Mishipeshu”

“The Spirit you seek in the water is only a reflection of yourself”

Deputy Farris: “I'm afraid this case is about as weird as the last one we did together.”

You don’t say. We had another one with a wesen that wasn’t a wesen, but a spirit with an appropriate name that sounded a lot like Machu Picchu. Aside from Russell Hornsby so obviously having too much fun playing possessed Hank, the case went through without making any particular impact on me.

Reign: 2x21 “The Siege”

Mary: “What could he have to gain from striking out against you?”
Francis: “The throne!”

Wake up Mary! Your lover is in cahoots with your enemy and he's after your husband’s head, quite literally.

Reign: 2x20 “Fugitive”

Francis: “France has been through so much. Most of this country is like dry tinder, just waiting for a spark. All that is needed is a face, a claim, a bloodline, and someone who is willing to die for the cause.”

Well, that what happens when a snowball of bad mistakes finally hits you. I think this episode was the saddest one yet - so many disappointments and heartache, I lost count.

Grimm: 4x17 “Hibernaculum”

“Ah! It was colder than ice; it penetrated to his very heart”

Nick: “Time is not gonna help this. She's a Hexenbiest. I'm a Grimm.”

Okay, that just happened.

Reign: 2x19 “Abandoned”

Francis: “Well... you were planning to abandon our marriage, flee France and run off with my cousin, so... I no longer care what you do.”

Except I think that he does. How is he still sane and haven’t killed Conde is a mystery to me.

Grimm: 4x16 “Heartbreaker”

“How the silly frog does talk! He can be no companion to any human being!”

Kenneth: “I'm a little more hands on than Viktor”

Boy, they change their princes faster than Sun King did his mistresses!

Reign: 2x18 “Reversal of Fortune”

Mary: “You will deliver Renaude to me by dawn. You will tell him that he and his men will answer to me, because today I am king.”

Well, like I said in the review of the previous episode, lots of things happened, all of them could be reversed. Almost all of them.

Grimm: 4x15 “Double Date”

“One could have called that shape a woman or a boy: for it  seemed neither and seemed both”

Juliette: “Aren't you half Hexenbiest?”
Sean: “Why does everybody keep making that mistake? I am not a Hexenbiest. I'm a Zauberbiest. There's a difference.

What is the difference though?

Grimm: 4x14 “Bad Luck”

“No one is so thoroughly superstitious as the godless man”

Juliette: “Is that forever?”

Bad Luck indeed. The way they ended the previous episode left fans in general and me in particular in anticipation. I had lots of expectations.  Boy, this episode did not live up to any of them!

Reign: 2x17 “Tempting Fate”

Mary: “Before you dare to trust anyone else, you must first trust yourself. Your own power. That strength I'd thought I'd lost, I haven't. It's in me still.”

When this episode ended I immediately went online to check if this was a season finale. I knew it wasn’t, I knew there’s still some episodes left, but it felt like one. It wasn’t a finale of course; it was just a cliffhanger episode for us to dwell on until series return on April 17th.

Reign: 2x16 “Tasting Revenge”

Antoine: “You may end up with an English crown on your head.”
Conde: “If I have a head left to put it on.”

This episode felt a bit chaotic. Lots of sex and moving on and ‘moving on’ sex. Couples keep getting together and drifting apart. It’s like new episode new beginning. Or the end.

Reign: 2x15 “Forbidden”

Mary: “I don't know if I can love anyone again, but I know I can't keep living like this. A queen but not a queen. A wife but not a wife.”

This was a wonderful episode that opened so many new doors for pretty much every single character. From possible carrier as Madame for Greer to a more daring move to Scotland for Mary, the episode grabbed the attention and didn’t let it go. Will they act on any of it is another question.

Grimm: 4x13 “Trial by Fire”

“And glory like the phoenix midst her fires, exhales her odours, blazes, and expires. ”

Juliette: “Bring it on, bitch.”

We met a cool, or rather hot, Wesen with an exotic name and Nick’s house got trashed. Again. How does he get by on cop’s salary is a mystery to me.

Reign: 2x14 “The End of the Mourning”

Mary: “You will be the death of me.  And I of you.”

There were few surprises in this one, only they weren’t that much surprising if you follow the series and know the characters.

Reign: 2x13 “Sins of the Past”

Narcisse: “There are those who merely believe they have power, and there are those who actually have it.”

Well, this was an episode for everyone. It was hilarious watching Catherine having to endure an unorthodox middle age treatment of a sickness she didn’t even have. It was painfully dramatic watching Mary letting Francis go. It was very romantic, how Bash spoke of his love for Kenna, his words were the best love confession I’ve heard in a long awhile.

Grimm: 4x12 “Maréchaussée”

“Everyone sees what you appear to be, few experience what you really are.”

Victor: “Well, we've broken the ice. Let's have lunch.”

The mummy, sorry, the Manticore slash bounty hunter was tracking and killing Wesen who violated the rules of the Wesen Council. There goes the case of the week.

Reign: 2x12 “Banished”

Catherine: “That was a very expensive mistake. What jealous tantrum did that necklace pay for?”

Well, this was bloody brilliant!
I believe the review will be a long one, so bear with me!

Grimm: 4x11 “Death Do Us Part”

“He felt now that he was not simply close to her, but that he did not know where he ended and she began”

Sean: “What the hell is going on?”

Yeah, let’s start with that! For a review of an episode where words and numbers and objects were shuffling around it is only appropriate to start at the end.

Reign: 2x11 “Getaway”

Mary: “None of us are responsible for our hearts, only our actions.”

This episode aired weeks ago, and I couldn’t bring myself to write about it. I tried, really tried and failed every time. It took all the will power and then some to finally look through my notes and try to understand why was I so disappointed in this one despite some great moments.

Grimm: 4x10 “Tribunal”

“May the God of Vengeance now yield me His place to punish the wicked.”

Monroe: “What is right is my love for my wife, and her love for me. That you will never be able to destroy.”

Boy, this was good! In fact I don’t remember loving that much any other episode of Grimm.

Grimm: 4x09 “Wesenrein”

“He had them brought before the court, and a judgment was handed down."

Wu: “I will do whatever I can to help find Monroe, but when this is over, I'm gonna need to have a more, you know, in-depth talk about...”

Considering what happened to Juliette and Monroe in the previous episode I went into this one with high expectations. I shouldn’t have. The episode was very slow and anticlimactic.

Reign: 2x10 “Mercy”

Catherine: “I'm only advising you to choose your next move carefully. The time has come to either dole out mercy or to crush them all. Whichever you choose, there is no turning back.”

Mary got her revenge. Conde helped. Francis, once again, was left out. This seems to be the latest trend.

Grimm: 4x08 “Chupacabra”

“Cuide su rebaño, nunca deje su lado. Cuide su sangre, el Chupacabra tiene hambre”

Wu: “Cause of death in each one of these cases is what I would call Portland-esque, and by that, I mean it's weird.”

Even if you don’t speak Spanish, the word ‘chupacabra’ in the title is never a good sign. What did we learn from this one? If you are Wesen you should definitely cross off Dominican Republic from your vacation destinations list.
