Wu: “Might
be the trouble with playing God.”
Well, this was confusing and boring with some scientifically gibberish dialogue.
Moving on…
Well, this was confusing and boring with some scientifically gibberish dialogue.
I was never a fun of Frankenstein’s stories… with a possible exception of
Penny Dreadful’s Victor… Here we had a Grimm version of a mad scientist who
lost his son in a car accident and decided to bring him back to life using body
parts bought from a nearby funeral home. Unfortunately his colleagues were as
mad as him, since no one thought to stop and think what they were doing. As bad
luck would have it, they pieced the body together using the parts of Wesen.
Boy, they were in for a horrific outcome. Aside from a delight that was Hank
and Wu investigating this case together and a nice shout out to Mary Shelley,
this was boring as hell.
Moving on…
Giovanni Antonio Vanosina da Varese (who was also possibly a Grimm) back
in 1575 painted the ceiling and depicted Wesen as mythological pagan creatures.
This theory is only mildly entertaining, but we are getting into gray area.
Some time ago it was established that Wesen were Egyptian Gods before, now all of a sudden
they are aliens. Seriously?
Also, this ‘something’ terrible and prophesied is coming and I’m
really confused – they were wondering as to when exactly that something is
going to happen, but didn’t we learn the ‘when’ part like two episodes back? I
remember the date – 24th March. So, why this question all of a
sudden?
In the moment of extreme worry for Eve Nick referred to her as Juliette.
I did not like it. Not one bit. Are they starting to prepare us for Nick and Juliette
as an ultimate couple? Are they planning to end the show the same way they
started when it comes to the main couple?
At the same time all this is very subtle, so I don’t quite know what to
think. Like what are Nick’s feelings, for example? I imagine it is quite
difficult to look at the woman and not to see the woman he loved,
but he also vividly remembers his mother’s head in the box. The sequence in the
hospital room might be a hint – he loved her, she killed his mother and then
she died. End of Juliette’s story. Is that it? This is just a new girl Eve, who isn’t Juliette, isn’t his mother’s killer, but
looks like her. Must be hard… at least when she was full on robotic Eve it was
easier to compartmentalize.
Eve is having an identity crisis of her own. Who is she? She doesn’t know
herself. She is not quite Juliette, she is no longer really Eve, she is still Hexenbiest
and now has a link to whatever black hole that was. I really wish we knew what
is happening in her head and how much she lets on? At least she had enough
common sense not to stay in the loft. Or was that her broken heart that
couldn’t deal? See? I’m confused….
Some observations
Episode’s opening quote was: “No man chooses evil, because
it is evil; he only mistakes it for happiness”. Did you guess who said it? How quickly? Of
course it was Mary Shelley. Points to those who guessed or knew for sure.
So, it is believed that if you break a mirror it’s for bad luck,
apparently if it gets itself back together it is even worse. The superstition
means that the soul of a person is trapped in the broken mirror, so there could
be a slight hint here as to what is happening…. maybe.
I remember back in first seasons cast members were often practicing
different languages; they haven’t lately and I’ve almost forgotten how good
they are. Sasha Roiz had a chance to practice his Russian in this one. Russian
isn’t an easy language, but he nailed it.
So, Hank wants to be cremated.
Interesting. Wu’s reaction to it was hilarious.
Rosalee’s pregnancy, namely the fact that she is carrying three babies,
not to mention that one of them could be not human, hasn’t been given much
thought or screen time for that matter. What we’ve seen in this episode at
least showed us how terrified Monroe
is of the possibilities. It was a very cleverly done sequence. I figured it was
a dream (or rather a nightmare) when baby No. 3 was born. Until that second
they played it very realistically. And hey, they are wesen, who knows how long it
takes one to carry to term?
No Adalind. No Diana.
Memorable Quotes:
Rosalee: “Are
you suggesting that Wesen come from other planets?”
Hank: “Cremate
me, spread my ashes over the Willamette
River, and let me float
free to the edges of wherever.”
Wu: “You
know there are a lot of cows and horses that drink from the river. So what
happens if some cow drinks from the Willamette
and gets you, too, then craps you out in a field? Then some farmer comes along
and tills that field. Next thing you know, you're buried beneath the cold, dark
ground.”
Hank: “Don't
mess with a man's afterlife.”
Wu: “Dead
guys don't woge. Do they?”
Sol’s rating: very unimpressed - only 2 out of
5.
