Grimm this week went into full Revenge mode and what a delightful hour it was!
It started out nicely with
Monroe and Rosalee out on a date in a fancy restaurant. The whole “we should
maybe think about moving in together” speech was so adorable and totally
Monroe-like, only it took him about five minutes to say it out loud and it involved
clothes and closets spaces, following by the first “I love you”. How sweet… but
since it is Grimm we’re watching it was bound to get grim.
Of course there was
something wrong and it was obviously a set up for a wesen of the week, and I
even guessed it has something to do with that beef and truffle tartlet and was
worrying for a big part of an episode that something might happen to Rosalee.
When Nick and Hank pieced together that the victims were all Blutbaden and Nick was asking Monroe if he was OK, I
was like “Ask about Rosalee! She ate two of those.” And second later I remembered
– Rosalee is Fuchsbau and therefore immune to the poison. (Wake up Sol!)
We have already heard in previous episodes about the war between Blutbaden
and Bauerschwein that dates back centuries. Since Bauerschwein clearly don’t
stand a chance in a fight against Blutbaden, they, and namely one crafty pig,
decided to poison their enemy to death with some haute-cuisine. The plan was
very clever since those mushrooms were specifically cooked to kill only the Blutbaden
clientele. Still the death was gruesome, and I totally didn’t need to see it
actually happening.
Since the victims were friends of Monroe
naturally he wanted to avenge their deaths. That was a nice twist they played at
the end - I didn’t realize it was a trick, until Nick fired a gun. Of course it
was! He would never shot Monroe
otherwise. Still the set up was nicely done and I didn’t see the trap coming.
And once again Nick found a way to get the killer as a cop and not as a Grimm,
though I seriously was doubting he could do that this time.
Twice in this episode Nick
was reminded that he is a killer, that’s what part of being a Grimm is – to
kill wesen of this world. He heard it twice from murderous chef and from
Captain Renard – both Wesen and both times Nick seemed to be taken aback. And
though I could care less about the opinion of a killer-pig, I do very much mind what Captain Renard said:
“What's really bothering
you, the fact that you killed somebody or the fact that you killed somebody who
wasn't wesen? Because God knows you've killed plenty of them. That's what you Grimms do, isn't
it?”
Firstly because it touched
ever so slightly the issue of Captain being a Hexenbiest and Nick being a
Grimm. They sort of acknowledge that as fact and moved on. Of course I don’t
want Nick to kill his Captain (I like my Grimm with Sasha Roiz in it) but I
wish they sort of addressed this issue somehow.
Secondly, should Nick feel
remorse for killing Wesen? Is Captain concerned he could kill him one day?
Whatever the reasons are I
found his words a bit harsh. When it comes to Nick he is not your typical Grimm.
His mother was ready to kill both Monroe and Rosalee without thinking twice,
just because they were Wesen and killing them was in a job description. But
Nick isn’t like that. Nick is only killing for a reason and only those Wesen
who kill and attack the innocent people and he never kills just because. Nick is friends with
Wesen. He sees and judges people and Wesen equally so to speak, and that’s a
lot for a Grimm.
Plus Nick feels bad enough. Does
he need to start questioning the moral side of his second job (or being Grimm
is a first job?). Add to that the fact that he now is remembering his time as zombie and
his guilt is aggravating as is his catatonia – last one happened mid
conversation. Yes this zombie spell made him stronger, but those death-like
episodes are very weird. I wonder what would happen if next time Juliette isn’t
going to be around to snap him out of it?
Some observations
We finally
got the name of Sean’s ally in Austria
- Sebastian. It suits him.
Bud’s wife
made a cake for Nick because he was moving out of Monroe’s! How peculiar! The cake was made in
a form of a suitcase and had “homeward bound” written on it. Very cute! Too bad
they didn’t get to eat it.
Adalind’s
creepiness was narrowed down to bloody tears. How refreshing! But it could be
that there were already people blowing up on trees in this one and to add
something else like that would be too much. Seriously, third episode in a row
with someone’s guts being spilled all over the forest! Yak!
Juliette
was once again helpful with her vet knowledge, and she felt less out of place
this week. Maybe I’m warming up to her.
Sebastian
and Sean spoke French over the phone the first time, and the second time they spoke
English. I can’t figure out the rule of that rotation!
It really
seems like Eric is dead isn’t it? Does Grimm and Co. know he's dead?
Memorable Quotes:
Nick: “All
we have is two people who ate there, climbed trees, and blew up.”
Hank: “That's
enough to look at their menu.”
Nick: “A
completely different kind of victim. So what's the connection between the two?”
Hank: “Besides
the tree?”
Monroe: “Sam never hurt anybody. And Ned's
the same way. I mean, yeah, okay, we hunted a little when we were young, but
never bauerschwein. Only the legal stuff.”
Monroe: “I like it when dinner talks back.”
Moral of this episode: ‘Sometimes
being a vegetarian can save your life’ or ‘Don’t be lazy, learn to cook and eat
at home, instead of in fancy restaurants’. It's one or the other!
