Gideon: “Setting aside your
personal feelings for the good of your country.”
When did Narcisse became the
sane one?
This episode left me with
mostly monosyllabic sentences…
Like…
Oh, Darnley how stupid of
you to think they would let Mary live… or you for that matter.
“No one, not even a child,
is innocent.” Seriously, Knox? Well, you will burn in hell for willing to kill
an innocent unborn child.
Nicole finally opened her
eyes; or rather had her eyes open by always accommodating Henry.
Archduke Ferdinand was the
only one who wasn’t fooled, even though Elizabeth
really tried.
Looking at Mary, helpless, pregnant, prisoner in her own castle, queen
with no allies, but her scum of a husband, betrayed by her own Privy Counsel’s
members I was wondering: “When did all this start to go down to hell?” I
believe her marriage to Darnley was the first nail in the proverbial coffin….
But could she have done something differently? Had she forgotten her claim for England, would
she have been able to keep her kingdom and her head? She could have married
someone else and give an heir and hope for the best… Or she could have stayed
in France,
but that was not the option… only maybe if Francis was alive… I guess Mary is
doomed either way.
Aside from Narcisse, the only one who was actually doing his job, the
French court is such a circus these days. A puppet king on the throne, his
beloved by his side, who is secretly sleeping with his own brother and the Lord
Chancellor, who is also sleeping with their mother. Maybe brothel is a better
word than circus. Looking at them made me realize who much I miss Francis and
how much it all has gone down the hill since his death…
We have finally gotten to major plot developments: David’ murder and
Mary’s escape from the castle. If you are familiar with history, then you know
that what we saw on screen was exactly how things happened in real life. David
was stabbed 56 times by Darnley and his allies in front of a pregnant queen.
Darnley later switched sides, soon after that, he and Mary escaped from the palace
to seek refuge in Dunbar castle.
Historical bits
Did you know that King Francois I bought the Mona Lisa painting and kept
it at Fontainebleau
Palace? It remained there
until Louis XIV moved it to Versailles.
Whereas we were never told which castle is the royal residence on the show, it
makes sense that Charles would have the painting in his collection.
Some observations
Mary said
Greer left. When did that happened? Did I miss something?
Mary finally announced her pregnancy, thus
taking away Darnley’s chance to dispute the paternity. Long time coming.
Archduke Ferdinand, reading someone’s private
letters that is just not something you do.
Boy, that
wedding ring was ugly!
Wardrobe department

This time, not so gorgeous.
Memorable Quotes:
Catherine:
“I have one son... a king... who beheads English nobles. And another wishing to
be king, who agitates Protestants and seizes English ships. They seem to be at
war with each other. If we don't control them, they'll soon have us at war with
England.”
Henry: “I
think you're a beautiful, ambitious, young woman who's learned to pull the
strings of men, and yet can't see when her own strings are being pulled.”
Gideon: “Allow
yourself to love and be loved again, or the bitterness will just destroy you.”
Ruthven: “What
has happened to Scotland?
The queen is more French than Scottish... and takes the word of an Italian over
her own treasurer.”
Sol’s rating: 3 out of 5.
