Grimm: 3x10 “Eyes of the Beholder”

“I am glad ‘tis night, you do not look on me,
for I am much ashamed of my exchange.”
Hank: “Well, when you have someone that loves you, that can get you through a lot of bad.”

Oh, boy! Way too many things happened in this one. Lots of revelations, someone’s past has come back to not to haunt, a hell of a kitchen fight, a strong friendship, an old love, a new love and a young love. And did they just actually compare “being Wesen” to “being gay”?

I am not a fan of gangs-related episodes, so I’ll make it brief. One gang, 7th Street Savages slash Yaguaratés, may be moving to Portland. The local gang, North End Crew slash humans, isn’t too happy about it, so they decided to attack the leader of a rival gang Alonzo Banks and his girlfriend, killing the former and sending the latter to the hospital.

Now, that’s out of the way, let’s talk about what matters. Love was in the air throughout the episode. Obviously universe decided to give Hank another chance with his therapist-lady, making her little brother a murder witness. Nothing brings people together more than fear of death and a night at a nice motel safe house. Hank had a chance to be a knight in shining armour, even though she didn’t quite need his protection. It was somewhat disappointing to find out that  Zuri and her brother were Yaguaratés. Because after the reveal I looked back and it make the premise of the episode kind off pointless. Why did she run in fear when two gang members came to her apartment for Jared? She could have easily taken both of them out. Why was Jared so afraid in the beginning and throughout the episode when he obviously can take care of himself. It just made no sense. It would have been better and frankly more believable, if the writers made them human. Instead they ruined a nice plot for a cheap surprise.

Moving on. Apparently ‘coming out’ as Wesen is a big deal for some. Rosalee had a hard time accepting who she is, which led to some bad choices. Now, she is very much comfortable in her skin, living with Monroe and having friends like Nick and Juliette. She is in so much safer place now, that she is able to share glimpses of her past with Monroe and others.

Alicia has the same problem, denying who she is, pretending Wesen don’t exist and afraid to show her true face to her best friend. Having an abusive jerk as a husband certainly didn’t help. Now she has people in their lives that understand her and accept her. I was also glad they didn’t drag this story. Her husband didn’t deserve to be a part of anything and how appropriate and satisfying it was that Juliette and Alicia fought him off and not Nick.

But having people who know who you are and accept it isn’t enough for Zuri. Whereas Hank is willing to date her knowing she’s Yaguaraté not to mention cover up the murder [justified, yet still a murder] she committed, Zuri is not so open to a relationship. To be continued, I guess.

This episode made me think about Wesen vs. humans. We were never told [at least I don’t think we were] the actual figures in terms of population. Lately it seems like humans are overrun by Wesen.

Some observations

It was a nice moment when Alicia decided to show Juliette how she looks. And what a cute little Fuchsbau she is. Juliette's reaction was wonderful.

I caught the number of the episode again – Zuri’s apartment.
