Narcisse: “What the hell kind of country
do you have here?”
This one reminded me of a kindergarten… all of a sudden the adults were
busy elsewhere and kids were left alone to run free and be kids and get
themselves into lots of troubles.
Kids in London
were somewhat a comic relief, not that we needed one. Prince of Denmark was
meant to be hilarious I suppose, but his character was too much of a cliché and
stereotyped and way over the top to be funny. Quite much more interesting was Elizabeth trying her best
to keep her cool and Lola whose obvious influence on English queen became
remarkably strong.
News of the shipwreck reached England and Elizabeth, who isn’t stupid,
put two and two together and got Lola. She was kind enough to offer her condolences
and place to stay forever. She wasn’t even angry at Lola, how could she? Lola
unintentionally got rid of her enemy. Will see if Elizabeth
continues to be that kind when Mary finally gets to Edinburgh.
Kids in France
were actual kids. Charles with group of his friends and Claude and Leith gathered information, conducted the recon mission,
planned and executed the operation. He is smart and quick thinking and I like
Charles a lot. Unfortunately it was clear his plan would fail. He is brave and
sneaky but due to his age he lacks the certain art of knowing who to trust. Their
escapade ended badly, Charles is kidnapped and Leith
is probably, although we didn’t see it, dead. Having Charles in the custody of
Red Knights means Catherine will find herself in a very difficult situation,
because I suspect they would use this to get what they want. What do they want,
besides the complete eradication of Valois
line? They do that, then what?
Kids in Scotland…
well, there was only one – Mary was like a lost child, desperately clinging to
Narcisse for guidance and support. Unfortunately or fortunately, he left her,
but not until making sure she’ll be somewhat safe. How very noble! Good speed,
Narcisse, we’ll see you in London.
What Mary didn’t get from Narcisse, she got from the leader of the druids. He
found the right words and helped Mary to believe in herself as queen of this foreign
to her land. Of course the McFee clan killed all the druids and ‘invited’ Piere
and Pauline, a.k.a Bash and Mary, to join them on the road. Coincidently Mary
realized that those are exactly the same people who were behind Francis’s death
and attempt on her life and saw this as an opportunity to exact revenge. We’ll
see where that path leads her, I hope to the Edinburgh Castle,
because I want the last scene of this season be Mary on the throne.
Historical bits
Prince of Denmark has never been one of Elizabeth’s suitors.
There is no whispering
gallery at Windsor Castle or Hampton
Court Palace,
so it shouldn’t be one in whatever castle is standing in for Elizabeth’s residency in the series.
Some observations
Mary’s mercenaries who were paid well and seemed so brave scattered at
first sign of trouble.
So Bash has
magic, why does it matter? And didn’t we know that already?
Lola
described Narcisse as "morally corrosive and very sexy." How very
accurate!
Charles’
spy network was called "The Phantom Brigade". LOL
Charles and Co. should have definitely checked
the building before setting it on fire. I half expected there to be people.
Wardrobe department
The “Best Dress of the week”
Award goes to Claude. That fluffy white-pale pink dress was very princessy.
The “Worst Dress of the
week” Award goes to Lola, again terrible matching of colors that do not match.
Memorable Quotes:
Lola: “Because
England and Scotland share
borders. Because radical Protestants and Catholics hate each other. Because the
blood in your veins divides people into camps, encouraging battle for a single
throne.”
That sums it up nicely, wouldn’t you say?
Sol’s rating: that was the poorest hour of all,
just 1.
