"If a man of pure heart were to fall in love with her that would bring her back to life” |
This episode was fantastic!
It had great fights scenes, an expected arrest, an unexpected death, some major
revelations, somewhat twisted sacrifice and the kiss.
It had all,
yet at the core of an episode was a recurring theme of trust and love. Nick was
able to express his feelings about not having his mother in his life and
ultimately forgiving her. I don’t know how I’d feel if the mother I thought was
dead was suddenly in my life, but it sure as hell would’ve taken a lot longer. I
still don’t trust her, neither should Nick, at the very least he should stop
and think and not jump in blindly. He doesn’t really know her. I mean if there
was ever a reason for her to let him know she’s alive it was when aunt Marie died,
yet she only appeared when the coins resurfaced. So even though she obviously
cares for Nick, it still feels like she has her own agenda, so that “I love you” bit
at the end made me a little sad.
It was Kelly however who
pointed out that the relationships between Nick and Monroe are solidly based on mutual trust. It
must have been very strange for Kelly to socialize with Blutbad and Fuchsbau instead
of just, well kill them. Their scenes together were all very well done except
for the conversation on the porch, when Rosalee was trying to explain their
friendship with Nick - it felt forced like it wasn’t her place at all to
rationalize it, plus the hug came out of nowhere and was totally out of place.
Another one whose trust Nick
has completely is his partner. Hank is starting to notice things that don’t add
up, but choose not to push and let Nick tell him when he’s ready.
Hank: “You don't want to
tell me about it, it's okay. I just want you to know I trust you.
I believe what you tell me,
and I don't think about what you don't. But whatever you do,don't hang me out to dry.”
Now would be a great time to let him in on a secret life of a Grimm, Nick! It will be so much easier for you at work! .
Speaking of work, throughout
the episode Nick was called to investigate his crime or his mother’s. That must
have been weird but he didn’t even blink, that’s some compartmentalizing! Nick
is getting very comfortable in his Grimm skin, but for a police officer he’s
really really bad at concealing crime scenes, or at least eliminating evidence
that would lead straight to him. How reckless was of him to leave his gun
behind! No wonder he got arrested, albeit briefly. The FBI agents couldn’t get
anything stick despite Nick’s “wrong” gun and his [mother’s] DNA. They did feel
something was off with Nick not being able to give any concrete answer except
for writing it all off to instinct.
However Nick’s now on FBI radar. Is that important? Probably not, we have a lot
on our plate as it is with Royal Families and all.
Meanwhile, Juliette received
a potion in a from of eye drops that should prevent her from losing her
memories, unfortunately a bit too late since Nick has been already erased,
therefore making the last second twist not so much twisty. I mean, come on! It
was obvious she wouldn’t remember him.
Grimmology
So Captain Renard is a
prince – “handsome, charming, and [literally] a bastard.” He kissed Juliette to wake her up from her coma-sleep and he is half Hexenbiest! WOW! We’re into season
two, so it was about time we learned who Renard actually is. We knew (well, at
least suspected) that he is a Wesen, but making him only half Wesen - half
human, and not just any human, but a Royalty was a much greater twist and I
absolutely loved it.
The purification process he had to go through looked very painful. He must really want Nick to be happy and stay in Portland under his watch to put himself through that. That's a commitment! I would never ever drink something like that.
We got a new Hexenbiest and
we lost another one – Catherine Shade is dead. She will be missed, I actually
preferred her to plain boring Adalind. Oh well!
Some observations
That was one hell of a beautiful
castle!
Sasha Roiz shirtless – yummy!
During the fight Adalind’s
mother stunt double – even in Hexenbiest form - was very obvious with much
longer hair and all.
Memorable Quotes:
Cathrine: “It's a
purification process. The person who wakes her has to be pure of heart.
It's challenging finding someone
like that nowadays, so we have to do it chemically.”
FBI: “The DNA from a hair we
found is close enough to yours to be a relative. But it's not yours.
We want to know who you're
covering for.”Nick: “My mother.”
FBI: “Funny.”
(That actually was funny)
