Nick: “It's weird, you know, not
being weird anymore, just being a regular cop”
Welcome back Grimmsters! It’s season 4! Finally!
Grimm might have lost the tradition of finishing the season and starting the next one with the endless “to be continued” loop, but one other tradition lives no matter what. Every season finale and next season opener Nick’s house gets trashed. Someone always brakes in, someone is always getting shot at or doing the shooting, vases and furniture end up broken and sometimes someone dies. This time it was all of the above.
Only this time it was not the
mom, but Nick and Juliette doing the much needed cleaning, which was appropriate. After all cleaning
is proven to be therapeutical.
Therapy they might need this
time around. Juliette couldn’t shut up about Nick sleeping with Adalind,
telling it to everyone, except maybe the FBI. Yes, sure he should have realized
it wasn’t her, since the experience was so obviously drastically different,
plus he is a Grimm and he should know body jumping thing is a possibility.
Still Juliette had better not to air all dirty laundry in front of all their
friends. Nick is feeling guilty enough. At least she didn’t kick him from
master bedroom to the couch. We’ll see how those two will handle the situation going
forward.
What was more interesting to see is Nick handling his Grimmless
predicament. Thankfully his powers were not restored in the first episode. Hate it
when they create a world-ending situation in the finale and then reset
everything back to status quo in the next episode. Like they did last season. I certainly prefer more episodes with Nick as not Grimm, than Nick
zombie, but you get my point.
Anyway, on the surface Nick seems to be doing a
good job at holding his emotions at bay. He kept saying “we have to deal with
it” and even suggested that it is a good thing him not being a Grimm anymore. Maybe
for Juliette, who got her wish granted, but not for Nick, who lost a very
important part of himself and David Giuntoli has perfectly communicated the internal
struggle.
Despite losing the secret weapon, he is trying to do the police work much like before when he
was just a regular cop. Only he still has one. It
certainly helps the suspect elimination process to have Trubel around, who took on this new responsibilities of being ‘the only Grimm in town’ very seriously. She handled herself
both when she gave her statement and during the events reconstruction. She didn’t slip
once. If that FBI lady wasn’t a Wesen, the case could have been already closed.
Speaking of FBI
Wesen lady, did she woge-test Nick during their conversation at the precinct? We
didn’t see her change, because Nick couldn’t see her change, but it sure as
hell looked like she woged. If she did, she now knows two things for sure: Theresa is Grimm. Nick is not. When Prince
Victor forged evidences proving that headless 'what's his name?' was working for Nick come to her attention Nick will very quickly move to the top of suspects
list. That could potentially lead to some interesting developments.
As for the wesen of this
hour and the next one… there isn’t much to say, yet. Tom, the President Grant’s
secret service agent moved from Shondaland to Grimland, and managed to keep some
homicidal tendencies. Wesen, stealing memories to steal a defense contractor’s
confidential data - that’s a new one on a whole new level. Not only is he
stealing them, he’s eating them, performing a magical and painful cut and paste
that leaves people he attacked completely stripped off of all memories. More on
that in the next episode review.
Opening
credits are back to their longer version, but this time I loved it. More
dynamic with each character is much better presented.
Poor Sergeant
Wu was once again questioning his sanity. I wish they had told him already.
It’s been dragging for awhile now, and watching this episode I got a feeling
that they might have missed the window.
Come to
think of it Nick and Adalind have an interesting relationship. Grimm can take
powers away from Hexenbiests by mixing his blood with theirs and Nick chose to
do it via a kiss. Hexenbiest slash witch can take away Grimm’s powers by
sleeping with him. Why does that matter? Probably doesn’t.
I stand by
my initial reaction to Nick moving the trailer, namely – bad idea. This place
that has no address and is not in Nick’s name might be not easy to find, but
it’s the “hard to get to” part that concerns me. It took Trubel two hours to get
there by bike, it doesn’t sound very effective time wise, when you have crimes
to solve and monsters to catch.
I will not
comment on how the episode ended, because I refuse to believe Captain Renard
will die. During his scenes I kept expecting his Hexenbiest powers to kick in
and save him. It is still not too late.
I totally
missed the number 401. Did anyone catch it?
Memorable Quotes:
Theresa: “Hundjager.
He was kind of surprised. That's why I had time to get the machete. He thought
I was just a girl.”
Juliette: “I
wish I could have seen his face before you cut it off.”
Theresa: “Hey,
maybe what she did to you won't last.”
Juliette: “You
don't know Adalind.”
Hank: “She's
a Hexenbiest, a witch.”
Nick: “In
more ways than one.”
Theresa: “What
am I supposed to say?”
Nick: “You're
just gonna tell the truth, except for the part about the Hundjager.”
Hank: “And
Adalind.”
Juliette: “And
the bottle he brought for Nick.”
What’s left
of the truth?
Sol’s
rating: Great season opener. Can’t wait for the next one.
